Selly Park Character Appraisal 2005 2nd Ed
This document is the basis for Selly Park’s listing as a conservation area by Birmingham Council. Written in 2005, the Character Appraisal covers the history and development of the Selly Park estate. It includes a street by street analysis of the area’s built environment and evaluates its architectural and historic significance.
At the City Council’s request, in 2020 the SPPOA Committee submitted a revised draft conservation area character appraisal and management plan (CAAMP). This will soon go to public consultation. Every resident of Selly Park conservation area will receive a letter from the City Council notifying them of the consultation process and the availability of the CAAMP on the Council website.
The law defines conservation areas as ‘areas of special architectural or historic interest, the character of which it is desirable to preserve or enhance’. The CAAMP sets out the nature of Selly Park’s character and the measures that need to be taken to defend it.
The SELLY PARK CHARACTER APPRAISAL AND MANAGEMENT PLAN is now out for consultation and Birmingham City Council is holding a public consultation event on Tuesday 7th September between 7pm and 9pm at St Stephens Church Selly Park.
